For her or for a show animal, we take a clipper and thin the forelock away from the ears, working on each side equally. For length, we scissor at an angle into a V shape. Never blunt cut like bangs -- it looks funny.

This is just my thing, but I personally would never, ever trim the length of a forelock. With my show gelding, I trim underneath and clean up on either side, horse forelocks but then I gel it and tuck it under his show halter so it doesnt matter how long it is. This is a huge concession on my part, as I adore long, thick forelocks,horse hair wefts and I would never do anything to (other than brush) the forelock of a horse that didnt show.

We dont trim or thin forelocks unless absolutely necessary. For example, we have had a mare whos forelock would get into her eyes and irritate them and shed pull my braiding out

In my opinion, cutting a forelock never looks natural.

Just wondering what is the proper way to trim the forelock? I tried trimming my minis, but they just dont look right. They are a little wild and bushy.. and kinda straight across.
